Overview

The Staff Accountant is responsible for managing and overseeing the accounts payable function of the Bank in coordination of the Controller, as well as assigned activities related to accounting and booking/reporting, vendor management and other financial records of the Bank.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains documentation for accounts payable and responding to information requests, reviewing financial statements and assisting in audits.
  • Reviews all expense reports and corporate credit cards for appropriate documentation and approval prior to payment.
  • Investment and safekeeping journal entries and maintenance.
  • Reporting for public funds collateral requirements.
  • Preparing journal entries, analyses and account reconciliations and assisting with monthly closed processes.
  • Responds to inquiries or refers inquiries to the appropriate department or person, and exhibiting the necessary follow through with customers and/or staff involved.
  • Operates computer terminal or personal computer to process account activity, determine balances and resolve problems within given authority.
  • Answers telephones, answers questions and directs callers to proper Bank personnel.

  • Follows policies and procedures; completes administrative tasks correctly and on time.
  • Perform such other accounting, financial, or administrative tasks as may be required from time to time by Executive Management.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance from a two/four year college or university preferred, and/or equivalent educations from a technical or trade school; or three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent education and experience. Work related experience should consist of a background in bookkeeping, accounting, and office administration. Educational experience, through in-house training sessions, formal school or financial industry related to curriculum, should be business or financial industry related.

  • Intermediate knowledge of Bank operations, products and services; related state and federal laws and regulations; and other Bank operational policies and procedures
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Intermediate skills in computer terminal and personal computer operations; mainframe computer system; word processing, spreadsheet and specialty software programs
  • Intermediate typing skills to meet production needs of position.
  • Intermediate math skills; ability to calculate interest, commissions, proportions and percentages; balance accounts; locate routine mathematical errors; compute rate, ratio and percent, including the drafting and interpretation of bar grap
  • Exceptional verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to apply common sense to carry out instructions and instruct others, train personnel, write reports, correspondence and procedures, speak clearly to customers and employees.
  • Ability to work with minimal or no supervision while performing duties.

Mental demands

The incumbent in this position must be able to accommodate to reading documents or instruments, detailed work, problem solving, customer contact, reasoning, math, language, presentations, verbal and written communication, analytical reasoning, stress, multiple concurrent tasks and constant interruptions.
